    UPDATE********

I decided not compete a dial refinish. It is always controversial to send a vintage watches original dial and hands for professional restoration. I elected not to with this tresure. The black dial is in remarkable shape for being 110 years old. This is truly a gem!

    ***********************************************************************************************************************************************************

What a treat! I am offering a English origin Waltham Black Dial cushion shaped WW1/Trench wrist watch. The case is a heavier gold filled Dennison case. . There is not a lot written about the company as they had a short life span. Please read below for more historical information. Do not wait on this one, this will go quickly. This is the only English Black Dial "Cushion" that I have offered in 3 years, I have offered round Dennsion cased Trench Watches, but not a cushion!

I am offering a English case with a seldom produced 7 jeweled movement. In 1915, one year after WW1 started, the year this movement was made, only 200 were produced in 1915! This really could be considered a “limited Edition”

What are “Turn of the Century” wrist watches, AKA as Trench Watches or WW1 Watches. They were created using 3/0 and 0 size pocket watch movements and installing into watch cases that were meant to worn on the wrist.

They often have some of the following characteristics:

Fixed or Wire Lug: No traditional spring bar attachment as found in today’s watches.

Case Material: It or often Solid Gold / Sterling Silver (925) / Silverode or Gold Filled.. The case lid snaps snug on the case. The case back snaps on tight as you hear a resound snap. This is important to note as many solid gold cases were badly damaged by their owners This watch case has been taken care of throughout its 100+ years, it is in remarkable shape.

*For more practical purposes, a special alloy was developed which went by several different names, such as, "Silveroid, Silverore, Silverode or Silverine. "Silveroid" appears to have become the standard name for this metal that consisted of 45% nickel, 54% copper and 1% manganese. This metal was fairly hard wearing and could withstand the rigors of everyday use, for instance on the Railroads.

Case Manufactures: There were many case manufacturers that made cases for Trench Watches. Some of the more well know were: Dennison (English Manufacturer) Illinois (not affiliated with the Illinois Watch Company) Depollier and Sons, Wadsworth, Fahys, Philadelphia, Fortune, Brooklyn and many more

This movement has recently had a complete service as runs beautifully. It winds smoothly and sets correctly. The crown is a latter replacement.

This is a rare opportunity to own a rare combination, an English watch movement from 1915. The USA under the Waltham name is hint that this was md e for the English Market. As a matter of fact, I acquired this from England earlier this year. it is British to its core.

The dial I elected to keep original. it is a sublime survivor for. watch that is 110 years young.

The watch band is a brand new 20MM open ended (as the watch has fixed or wire lugs) textured “Buffalo” black leather with black to[ stitch and a yellow gold plated buckle.

The crystal is new and does not have any scratches

The case back is engraved with GEORGE T SLADE in bold block letter, wouldn’t you like to know who could afford a solid gold watch back in 1915?

Please consider what you are getting, A hard to find (heavier than average) solid 14 karat yellow gold cushion watch made by a company known for high quality cases that has a short production run and a watch movement that only 5450 were ever produced!
